21 and 22 were my personal favorites tho for actual games in pixel art style I'd say 7 is the highest the game dev would reasonably do

I never really understood hue shifting and to improve my art I kind of tried to do it anyway without really following a rule (and messing up most of the times)... But you explained it so well! I freaking love 4-color pixel art palettes.

You should do a sprite analysis for batman: chaos in gotham on the gameboy color. Amazing animation and stylized pixelart in line with the animated series. That game is so overlooked. A true hidden gem.
